What is Dating?
What is Dating?
Dating is a form of courtship consisting of social activities done by two people
with the aim of each assessing the other’s suitability as a partner in an intimate
relationship or as a spouse. While the term has several meanings, it usually refers
to the act of meeting and engaging in some mutually agreed upon social activity
in public, together, as a couple. The relationship may be sexual, but it does not
have to be. It may be serious or casual, straight or gay, committed or open, short-term
or long-term.
What is Speed Dating?
What is Speed Dating?
Speed Dating is an organized social activity in which people seeking romantic relationships
have a series of short conversations with potential partners in order to determine
whether there is mutual interest.
Usually advance registration is required for speed dating events. Men and women
are rotated to meet each other over a series of short "dates" usually lasting from
three to eight minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end
of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle
to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event
participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their
contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to
both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in
order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face.

How to Act on a Movie Date?
How to Act on a Movie Date?
The following are the brief points that you should keep in mind while going out
for a Movie Date.
- Arrive early.
- Greet your Date.
- Choosing the Movie.
- Talking and Texting.
- Chat about the movie after it is done.
- Thank your date.
#1. Arrive early: Giving yourself 10 or more extra minutes is not only a
respectful gesture, but also useful if you want to find good seats. If your date
is late, keep your cool. Being late is rude and shows a lack of consideration and
ability to plan unless it's completely unavoidable.
#2. Greet your Date: Say Hi to your date with a hug. If it’s appropriate,
throw in a brief kiss while you’re at it. This will mainly apply to female dates.
Try to compliment your date casually like "You look nice" rather than going over
the top with things like "I like your dress". There's nothing wrong with complimenting
your date's clothing but they want to know that you like their whole look, not just
one thing they put on.
#3. Choosing the Movie: Choose the movie carefully. A romantic comedy is
cute and will encourage kissing and intimacy, but could seem a little much for a
first date. Comedy will diffuse tension and relax you and is a good choice for people
moving from friendship to romance. Horror movies are exciting and since you're scared,
you're able to snuggle together and break the touch barrier. Keep in mind both of
your own personal tastes and look in to reviews and ratings beforehand.
#4. Talking and Texting: Don't talk much during a movie and texting is a
strict no. Even if your date doesn’t think it’s rude, people around you might get
disturbed. But you can have breif conversations with your date in a low voice. When
the movie is done, talk about it for a while. This is the perfect opportunity to
make easy conversation and end the night on a personal note.
#5. Thank your Date: Be sure to thank your date. A good night kiss at the
theater is sweet, but if you don't kiss on the first date then a thank you is the
only thing needed.

How to Impress a Girl?
How to Impress a Girl?
Girls are special and when it comes to impressing them, you need to
invest an extra thought in your approach. The trick is to become the centre of her
attention without actually letting her know it.
It may take some time to impress
an Indian girl, but with some patience, it is certainly possible. Read on to gain
an insight into the art of wooing Indian girls.
- Be Confident: You can apply this tip for impressing almost any girl. Girls are naturally more attracted to men who are confident. Being confident does not mean being boastful. It simply means that you are comfortable with yourself and sure of your abilities. Having a confident attitude will also convey to the girl that she can depend on you. Believe it or not, but girls do look for these qualities in men.
- Impress Her Friends: This tends to have an indirect but amplified effect on the girl. By impressing her friends you can trigger a chain reaction which will eventually cause your dream girl to be impressed with you. You do not have to invest an effort to impress each one of her friends, but just her closest friends. Girls form their opinion of men by talking and discussing with their friends. If you are able to impress a girl's friends, then you are half way through impressing her.
- Set Yourself Apart: You can't expect to impress a girl until you set yourself apart from her other friends. You don't need to be flashy, but rather, be distinctively caring for the girl. Make your woman feel that you genuinely care for her and can take pains to be there for her. This whole process is gradual and it may take some time before the girl actually notices that she is important to you.
- Be Chivalrous: One of the age old ways of impressing women, being chivalrous can very well cast a good impression on a girl. Though this is one of the basic things while dealing with women, it is certainly very important. Indian women have a high regard for men who respect them. Simple and trivial things like opening the door for her, pulling out chairs, and getting the bill can make a special place for you in the heart of your girl.
- Cultivate a Talent: Girls definitely have a special place for men who have a creative talent. A talent can easily help you to stand out from everybody, in her eyes. However, you need to ensure that you are actually good with your talent or it will probably count for naught. Playing the guitar or any other musical instrument is among the conventional talents of men that appeal to women. You can also try your hand at poetry or sketching to come off as a little eccentric.
- Make an Impression on Her Family: This tip holds good especially in India. Impressing the family of a girl will automatically make way for impressing the girl. If you have found the ‘one', then this pointer can come in really handy for you. You can show off your good values and abilities to impress the family of the girl.
- Show off your Intellectual Side: You can certainly make a lasting impression on a girl if you are intellectual. Indian girls have a predilection for men who have a rich intellectual side, especially from the perspective of viability of a long term relationship. However, do observe precaution that while showing off your intellectual side; you do not come off as nerdy or mundane.
- Don't Come off as Desperate: One of the worst things you can do while trying to impress a girl is coming off as a desperate people-pleaser. Always remember that you need to be subtle in your approach or all of your efforts will go in absolute vain. It is important to show your good attributes, but do not try too hard to make them apparent.
- Work on Your Appearance: Looking good is apparently a prerequisite for impressing a girl. If you are not too sure about your fashion sense, then you can always consult a friend who has a good taste in clothes. You also need to take into account that it is not just your clothes that make up your appearance. You are also required to groom yourself so that you are counted among suave and cultured men.
- Take an Interest in Her: Women like men who can lend a ear to them. A good listener is one of the qualities women look for in their potential partners. You can also hone yourself better to her liking if you have an insight into her likes and dislikes. By taking a genuine interest in her, you can also convey that you care for her and respect her views, opinions and interests.
- Compliment Her: A girl will always appreciate some genuine compliments towards her. But you do need to steer clear of the obvious applauses that she probably gets from everybody. Notice the little qualities she has and appreciate them so that she knows that she is in your radar. However, the age old compliments about beauty and looks also work on most girls if you make sure they are genuine.
Indian women are not that hard to please; it's just that they take a little longer to please. All you need to be is consistent, yet a little subtle in your efforts to please the girl. However, do ensure that you are investing your efforts for the right girl.
History of Valentine’s Day
History of Valentine’s Day
How did St. Valentine become associated with love and romance? Know the full story
behind 14th Feb, the day of Love.
Every February 14, across the United States and in other places around the world,
candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St.
Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint, and where did these traditions come
from? Find out about the history of this centuries-old holiday, from ancient Roman
rituals to the customs of Victorian England.
The Legend of St. Valentine
The history of Valentine’s Day–and the story of its patron saint–is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. But who was Saint Valentine, and how did he become associated with this ancient rite?
The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first “valentine” greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl–possibly his jailor’s daughter–who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and–most importantly–romantic figure. By the Middle Ages, perhaps thanks to this reputation, Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France.
Origins of Valentine’s Day: A Pagan Festival in February
While some believe that Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine’s death or burial–which probably occurred around A.D. 270–others claim that the Christian church may have decided to place St. Valentine’s feast day in the middle of February in an effort to “Christianize” the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. Celebrated at the ides of February, or February 15, Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.
To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at a sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification. They would then strip the goat’s hide into strips, dip them into the sacrificial blood and take to the streets, gently slapping both women and crop fields with the goat hide. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed the touch of the hides because it was believed to make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, according to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city’s bachelors would each choose a name and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage.
Valentine’s Day: A Day of Romance
Lupercalia survived the initial rise of Christianity and but was outlawed—as it was deemed “un-Christian”–at the end of the 5th century, when Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine’s Day. It was not until much later, however, that the day became definitively associated with love. During the Middle Ages, it was commonly believed in France and England that February 14 was the beginning of birds’ mating season, which added to the idea that the middle of Valentine’s Day should be a day for romance.
Valentine greetings were popular as far back as the Middle Ages, though written Valentine’s didn’t begin to appear until after 1400. The oldest known valentine still in existence today was a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt. (The greeting is now part of the manuscript collection of the British Library in London, England.) Several years later, it is believed that King Henry V hired a writer named John Lydgate to compose a valentine note to Catherine of Valois.
Typical Valentine’s Day Greetings
In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. In Great Britain, Valentine’s Day began to be popularly celebrated around the 17th century. By the middle of the 18th, it was common for friends and lovers of all social classes to exchange small tokens of affection or handwritten notes, and by 1900 printed cards began to replace written letters due to improvements in printing technology. Ready-made cards were an easy way for people to express their emotions in a time when direct expression of one’s feelings was discouraged. Cheaper postage rates also contributed to an increase in the popularity of sending Valentine’s Day greetings.
Americans probably began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s. In the 1840s, Esther A. Howland began selling the first mass-produced valentines in America. Howland, known as the “Mother of the Valentine,” made elaborate creations with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as “scrap.” Today, according to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.) Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines.
